Hi everyone! I know I haven’t blogged in a while. To be honest, this whole quarantine thing has had me feeling a bit unmotivated lately. Trying to shoot photos at home has been a challenge. At first I didn’t mind since it was a new challenge that forced me to get more creative and out of my comfort zone. If you follow me on Instagram, then you would have seen my posts taken from home and I’m actually quite proud of how they turned out given the situation! But after a while being stuck in the same place and with the same surroundings, I just started to feel like there wasn’t much more that I could do.
Last weekend however, the weather in Toronto decided to give us a shimmering glimpse of hope into Spring. It finally hit above 20 degrees Celsius for the first time this year and of course I had to take advantage of that by basking in the sun. So my boyfriend and I decided to go out on our daily walk and shoot these photos! Don’t worry, we made sure to keep at least 6 feet apart from anyone else while we were walking. We’re lucky enough to live right in the heart of downtown Toronto so there’s many things nearby. We ended up walking to Union Station about 10 min away and shot these photos. It felt so nice to just be outside walking in the sun. That day just made me feel so much better so this week I want to share with you a few tips that have helped me feel better during this quarantine.
Put on a fun outfit: We’ve been stuck at home for 2 months now and like everyone else, I spend the majority of my days just working from home in either pajamas or sweatpants. There’s nothing wrong with that, but after 2 months of wearing the same thing over and over, you just start to feel pretty drab. For someone like me that LOVES fashion, I started to think to myself “just because I’m at home with nowhere to go, that shouldn’t stop me from dressing up”. After all, putting together a fun outfit and then trying it on is the best part! For our walk this day, I wanted to style my new WeWoreWhat overalls that I’m obsessed with. I paired the puffy sleeve polka dot blouse under it to bring some femininity to the otherwise rocker vibe of the overalls. I finished off the look with my trusty platform Doc Martens that I wear all the time. Whether you’re going out for a walk, working from home, or going for your weekly grocery shop, try to find that normalcy in your life. And putting on a fun outfit is the easiest way to start.
Exercise: We could all use a little more dopamine during this time and what better way to release that than through working out. There are so many great at-home workout videos on Youtube to follow that I’m sure anyone can find something to suit their needs. I also love following along on Instagram Live for yoga classes taught by instructors at a local yoga studio here in Toronto. Exercise also gives you that sense of accomplishment, and for most of us who now have a lot more time on our hands and are trying to find ways to fill that time, getting that workout session in is one thing that will allow us to feel accomplished and in turn, feel good about ourselves.
Spend more time with your furry friends: If you know me in real life then you know I am obsessed with bunnies. Ever since I was little, I’ve always just had a love for them. In 6th grade, my Dad got me my first bunny and I had her for the best 11 years. She passed away a few years ago, and ever since then, I’ve always wanted another bunny friend in my life. With quarantine and all the time I was now spending at home, I figured this would be the perfect time to adopt one. So that’s what my boyfriend and I did! We (safely) adopted the cutest and most precious little lionhead bun named Tig. My days at home now include training him, playing with him, feeding him, and cleaning up after him of course. Tig has brought us so much joy over the last few weeks that we’ve had him! It’s been so nice to have a little companion while at home. And if you have pets already, definitely take the time to show them a little extra love during this time.
Self Tan: This may seem really random, but being tanned makes me so happy. After spending all this time indoors, and especially with the last few months being winter, my skin has become so pale that you can see my veins through it (ew, I know). So the day before we shot these pictures, I decided to put some self tanner on. After letting it settle overnight, I wanted to show off my now perfectly tanned legs by putting on these overalls. Every time I looked down and saw my tanned legs, arms, ankles, etc, it just brought me so much joy. I don’t know why, but it just did. Maybe it will bring you the same joy too!
Listen to some feel good music: Nothing can help put you in a better mood than some fun, upbeat, feel good music. For that I recommend Dua Lipa’s new album Future Nostalgia. This whole album gives me all the 80s Madonna vibes and I’m here for it. Anytime I want something fun and easygoing to listen to, this has been my album of choice. In particular, I’ve been loving the song Levitating! It is just such a bop. But honestly this whole album is killer and I can’t recommend it enough.
And those are my tips for feeling good during quarantine. Hopefully this is helpful for you and if any of you have any tips you’d like to share with me, feel free to do so! I’m always looking for new ideas as well! Until next time, continue to stay safe!!
