This week is officially the one year anniversary of this blog, Songs from my Wardrobe! I can’t believe it! When I first started out, I honestly didn’t realize how much I would enjoy blogging, and therefore how much time I would actually dedicate to it. I remember initially telling myself to just try and upload a blog post once or twice a month, but it turned out to be once a week, with some weeks even uploading two blog posts.
So for this week, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to anyone that’s ever read one of my posts. For those that follow along and read every week, for those that just stop by once in a while to see what’s new and scroll through the pictures, for those that have ever taken the time to listen to any of the songs that I’ve featured, and to those that take the time to leave me such sweet comments and feedback, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It all means the world to me and you guys have all made my blogging experience so far that much more enjoyable.
To celebrate the one year anniversary of this blog, I thought it would be fun this week to take it back to my very first blog post and somewhat re-create it, in the sense that we shot these pictures in the exact same sunflower field from a year ago. I’ll also be featuring a new song from my favourite band, Local Natives, which I featured in my very first blog post as well. I know it’s been a while, so if you need a bit of a refresher, you can check out my very first blog post HERE.
To change it up this time around, I decided to keep my outfit super simple with a plain white top and denim shorts. The sunflowers are already so bright and vibrant on their own, and I loved the pink sofa that we used as a prop here, so I just wanted to let the colours of our scenery shine. This white blouse from Reformation (which is on sale in other colours now!) is such a simple piece, but the crinkled texture in the fabric, along with the ruffles and buttons give it such a nice dimension and makes it so unique! And you can never go wrong with a pair of vintage denim cutoffs for the summer.
In my first blog post, I featured a song off of Local Native’s first album, so this time, I wanted to feature one off of their latest release from 2016. I thought their song Fountain of Youth would be fitting this week, given that the song is all about not being afraid to stand up and go after what you believe in. I remember when this song first came out and the first time I listened to it, I just felt so empowered. I felt like I could take on the world. However, there was always a little bit of doubt in me to go after all the things I wanted. For example, when I first started this blog, I was afraid of putting myself out there. I was afraid of putting my thoughts online, afraid of how I would look in the pictures, and afraid of what people might say. Even though starting a fashion blog was something I had wanted to do for several years, I never did it until only last year because of my fear. The turning point for me was when I realized how unhappy I was in my career at this point last year. How I was just missing that creative outlet that I so desperately needed, that I felt like I wasn’t getting in my professional life. And so that void is what finally motivated me to actually start this blog.
In this past year, I’ve learned so much about myself through blogging. I’ve learned that I can actually do anything that I want, as long as a I put my mind to it. Of course it takes dedication, persistence, and hard work, but I am so proud of the content that I’ve created, from the styling and editing of all my pictures, to sitting down and writing a few paragraphs every week, to listening and discovering new (and old) artists to share with all of you! The entire process has been so fun and rewarding for myself. However, none of this would be possible without the help of my boyfriend. He’s the one behind the camera capturing each and every single photo on my blog. He’s the one who has encouraged and supported me since day one to keep creating content for the blog, has given me several great suggestions for it, and is the one who inspired this week’s blog post! Without him and his support, none of this would be possible.
Once again, thanks to everyone that has made this blog a reality either through the creation process, through your support, or simply by engaging with me through the blog! To thank all of you and to celebrate this milestone, I’m putting everything on Songs From My Wardrobe Vintage on SALE!!!! Everything will be 25% off from now until September 9th (no discount code needed). So if you’ve had your eye on anything, or just want to pick up some end of summer or back to school pieces, definitely do it now! I’ll also be adding more fall appropriate pieces very soon so stay tuned!
Thanks again for everyone’s support and here’s to several more years of blogging!
