So a while back, I saw the “Boyfriend buys my outfit” challenge going around on Youtube and I thought it would be so fun to do a twist on it on my blog instead! Although it was secretly an excuse for me to drag my boyfriend shopping and have him pick out clothes for me, I think he did such a good job with this dress. It’s not really that difficult to pinpoint my style and if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you probably have a good idea of it as well. I love anything loose and flowy, floral (or almost any) kind of print, and especially maxi/midi dresses for the summer. Anything bohemian is what makes me happy.
My boyfriend being much more on the simpler side when it comes to fashion, prefers all the basics. Plain t-shirts and polos, jeans, and khaki shorts. I think the dress that he picked out for me is actually such a good representation of both our styles – the style of the dress is totally me, but the print and colours are very subtle and muted, obviously something that my boyfriend approves of.
Now that we had the outfit down, another part of this challenge was that my boyfriend had to choose the shoot location for these pictures. So a few weeks back while strawberries were in season, he decided that we should also take the pictures for this blog post while we were there. When I asked him why he chose the strawberry field for this particular outfit, he replied “I always pictured these long dresses to be worn by women while in the field, like Little House on the Prairie”. So off to the strawberry fields we went. And you know what, I actually think he was right about this dress and this location – they go so well together! I probably would’ve chosen something similar if it were up to me.
You guys know that the second part of my blog posts always consist of a song for you to listen to. Either one that goes along with that week’s theme, one that’s in my current obsessions, or a personal favourite. Since my boyfriend was in charge this week, of course I had to have him pick out this week’s song as well. This is one of his personal faves and it’s All Apologies by Nirvana. As my boyfriend explained to me, he believes that this song was written to Kurt Cobain’s unborn child at the time, apologizing for the things that he does and says, even though he continues to make the same mistakes over and over, making him insincere and unfitting as a parent. So if you haven’t given this song a listen (although I’m sure you all have cause it’s a Nirvana classic!), definitely check it out below. As you can see, just as our personal styles differ, our musical preferences differ as well. I’m more into modern indie-rock, while he prefers 90s grunge and classic rock.
All in all, I think my boyfriend did an amazing job with this challenge! I absolutely love the dress that he picked and will definitely be wearing it again.
Let me know in the comments below how you think my boyfriend did with this challenge. We would love to read your thoughts!
